What is the relationship between Malaysia and South Korea? ›

Malaysia has an embassy in Seoul, and South Korea has an embassy in Kuala Lumpur. The two countries established relations in 1960. After cutting ties with North Korea in 2021 over an extradition, Malaysia recognized the Republic of Korea as the sole legitimate government of all of Korea.

Instead, in most cases, if you're a Malaysian entering Korea as a tourist, you'll just need to register in advance for a K-ETA (Korean electronic travel authorisation). The K-ETA is used in place of a full visa, and only offered to citizens of eligible countries.

Malaysian citizens who are planning a trip to South Korea aren't required to apply for a visa if they wish to go for short stays (tourism).
