George lived a full life spanning al- most 99 years, and he was dearly loved by his family and his many friends. He had a friendly smile and a warm greeting for everyone, al- ways ready to talk and share his in- fectious sense of humor.
George was born in St. Paul on Sept. 23, 1922, and he grew up in Duluth and Minneapolis. He attended West High, the University of Minnesota, and Yale University. As World War II was beginning, George was turned away by the Army for health reasons; undeterred, he joined the American Field Service and served in an ambulance corps in France and Italy.
After the war, George married Charlene Frances Hoch of Duluth, and they had three sons: George Tom, and Mark. George was a dedicated husband and fa- ther, always concerned about the well-being of his family. For most of his career, George worked in marketing for the Green Giant Com- pany and its successors. George was an avid and talented golfer, and he relished his time with his golf buddies. After Char was diag- nosed with pancreatic cancer in 1997, George remained at her side until her passing late that year.
Later in life, George and the late Helen McNulty became regular companions (a development Char would have cheered), sharing their wit and enjoying their many mutual friends. George will be remembered as a kind, genial soul who was always ready to smile, laugh, and engage with family, friends, and just about anyone he encountered. Preceded in death by his parents, George H. Stillman and Isabelle M. Stillman McNair); his sister, Nancy Stillman Frawley; and his beloved wife of 48 years, Charlene.

He was consistently jo- vial and enthusiastic, and treated all people he encountered with re- spect. Though he was never boastful about his professional life, was the definition of a dili- gent and caring family physician, who would stop at nothing to get the answers needed by the patient. Or, if there was no cure, he was the one to come alongside to help alle- viate suffering in the process of dying. He delivered thousands of babies, and saw many of them through their growing-up years. He retired just 9 short years ago, proud to do this while celebrating his 50th year of medical practice.
After graduating from Augustana College in Rock Island, IL, and then Universi- ty of Minnesota Medical School (al- ways a proud Gopher), he began his practice in Marshall, MN. He then served as a Navy physician in Indianhead, MD, following which he practiced family medicine in Robbinsdale, MN. In 1980, he found his passion for teaching, and spent the rest of his career training resi- dents and students (while still prac- ticing medicine right along with them) at the Mayo Clinic, of So. Illinois and finally 21 years as Program Director for the of program in Waterloo. Always the curious and rigorous one, John also performed clinical research and published 40 scientific journal arti- cles.
While dedicated to his career, he was also devoted to his children, who will miss him greatly. Bob was born on August 2nd 1937 in Vining, MN to Floyd and Alice Thoen. He graduated from Henning High School and later from Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapo- lis, where he got his start in plumb- ing. He opened Thoen Plumbing in the early 70s, employing many throughout time and had only re- cently retired at age 79. Bob was married for 62 years to his best friend and lifelong love, Darlyne. To- gether they lived a full and rich life, having two children and three grandchildren.
Bob had such a zest for life and kept very busy with many hobbies including building, gardening, caring for his pets, try- ing new restaurants, cooking, gro- cery shopping, reading the daily Star Tribune and spending time with his wife and grandchildren. He was an incredibly kind, generous and gentle man who will be so dear- ly missed by his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his be- loved children, Lance and Darla and brother, Norman. He is survived by his wife, Darlyne of Cologne, MN and grandchildren, Alyssa Ambroz of Saint Paul, Abby Ambroz and Noah Ambroz, both of New Prague. He also leaves behind the pets that he loved so much, Zeke, Willow and Sydney.
He was buried alongside his children in a private service. family thanks the medical staff at HCMC who cared for him so kindly after a brain injury from a fall required surgery. Torrini, Janice Ardell age 88 of Ea- gan, formerly of Blooming- ton passed away August 8th, 2021. She was a devot- ed Catholic and a loving wife and mother. She and her husband Bill were founding members of St Edwards Catholic church where she actively volun- teered her time and talents prepar- ing food for funerals and knitting prayer shawls for those in need.
Janice enjoyed spending time with her husband and many friends from around the country at their Foun- tain Hills, Arizona home. She had a great sense of humor, a hearty laugh and a zest for life. She will be missed dearly by all. She is survived by children, Susan K. Kullberg, William W.
