Inside, visitors might experience disembodied voices or footsteps, unexplained drops in temperature, and you might even spot the apparition of a woman who loves to put on a show.
The Alamo
No visit to San Antonio is complete without a stop by the legendary Alamo. Shortly after the battle of the Alamo took place, rumors of ghosts, and dark hauntings started to spark. People from all over the globe flock to this location to witness its history and paranormal activity of The Alamo.
History of the Drury Plaza Hotel
The Drury Plaza Hotel is housed inside the former Alamo National Bank Building. This 24-story steel and concrete structure was completed in 1929. At the time, the Bank occupied the first three floors, while the other floors were occupied by other tenants.
Over the years, the building has undergone extensive renovation but all of its original features - such as stained-glass windows, marble, and travertine features - have been carefully preserved. In the lobby, guests can still find the same crystal chandeliers that hung in the 1920s.
In 2005, the Alamo National Bank Building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Only two years later, the Drury Plaza Hotel opened its doors.
History of the Drury Inn & Suites
The building now housing the Drury Inn & Suites was constructed in 1921 as the offices of the San Antonio Public Service Company, a utility company. The structure was designed by Ayres and Ayres, a father and son duo and prominent San Antonio architects.
The Drury Inn & Suites is located in the San Antonio River Walk, and it’s just east of Plaza de las Islas, the first Spanish settlement dating back to 1718. The site over which the Drury Inn stands also holds significance, as it was the original location of John Twohig’s House, one of San Antonio’s first settlers.
After the San Antonio Public Service Company closed its doors, the building sat vacant until 1998, when Drury Hotels acquired the property. It was subsequently renovated but its original charm was carefully preserved.
