"Dick" Laws, 75, will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at the Peone Cemetery. Mr. Laws, who died Friday, was born in Kelowna, British Columbia. He was a resident of Spokane County for 60 years. He served in the Navy as a machinist during World War II.
He then worked for Western Electric and Ernie-Major Ford before purchasing a fruit orchard in Green Bluff in 1960, naming it Dick Laws Fruit Farm. Mr. Laws was a member of the Green Bluff United Methodist Church, where he was a trustee. He also was a member of the Green Bluff Grange, the State Grange and was a charter member of the Green Bluff Growers Association. He also served as a fire commissioner for District No.
4 for 12 years and was a volunteer with the Fire Department for 25 years. He was on the Mead School District Planning Committee, the Open Space Committee for Spokane County and the board of the Green Bluff Water District. Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Helen; five daughters, Mary Montero, Chris Eslick, Nelle Newman, Punky Conley and Kathy Missel; two sons, Russell Laws and John Kennedy; two brothers, Keith and Jerry Laws; a sister, Marion McDaniel; 20 grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. Mattoon, who was born in Uniontown, died Friday. She was a longtime resident of Colfax. She grew up in Ewan, and Elberton, and graduated from high school in Garfield, in 1943 at age 16. She enrolled in nurse's training at St. Ignatius Hospital in Colfax and then attended St.
Luke's School of Nursing in Spokane. In 1945 she married John Walker and the couple made their home in Colfax. She worked as a registered nurse at St. Ignatius Hospital until 1968, then transferred to the Whitman Hospital, where she worked until she retired in 1994. Her husband died in 1964.
She married Donald Mattoon in 1970. He died in 1972. Mrs. Mattoon was a charter member of the Eagles Auxiliary in Colfax and also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was an honorary member of the Colfax Fire Department.
Survivors include four sons, Donald Mattoon of Cheney, Doug Mattoon of Concrete, Mike Mattoon of Spokane and John Walker of Colfax; seven daughters, Kathy McGreevy, Nancy Walker, Anna Hernandez and Bobbi Soto, all of Colfax, Becky Hunt of Henryetta, Ginger Walker of Princeton, Idaho, and Robin Brannan of Boise; a brother, Walt Roach of Garfield; 21 grandchildren and 10 great -grandchildren. Shane Hofer BONNERS FERRY, IDAHO Service for Shane Michael Hofer, 27, was Friday at the United Methodist Church in Bonners Ferry. He was buried at Grandview Cemetery in a casket that was handmade by his friends. Mr. Hofer, who was born in Pasco, died April 22 from injuries suffered in an auto accident near Good Grief, Idaho, near Bonners Ferry. His companion, Sheryl Phillips, also was killed.
He attended school in the Pasco area until moving to Bonners Ferry in 1988. He completed his education in Bonners Ferry and then lived in Alaska and Oregon but always returned to Bonners Ferry, where he was recently employed by Precision Helicopters. Mr. Hofer enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, outdoor recreation and working on his pickup. Survivors include his parents, Benny and Connie Hofer of Bonners Ferry; brother, Jeremy; and grandmothers, Kay Hofer and Myrtle Roberts; Gladys (Lloyd) Peone TEKOA, WASH.
Memorial service for Gladys B. (Lloyd) Peone, 78, was Monday at the Mountain Bible Church in Tekoa. Inurnment will be at the Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa. Mrs. Peone, who was born in Orting, died Thursday.
She was a former 22-year resident of Worley, Idaho, and had been living in Tekoa for the past month. She grew up in Orting and attended schools there. As a young woman she worked picking berries in the Orting and Fife, area. She worked in a mattress factory in Tacoma during World War lI. In 1950 she married Clarence Peone in Coeur d'Alene.
The couple lived in California, Arizona, Washington and Idaho. She was a homemaker. She lived in Worley before moving to Pendleton, in 1984, where she remained until moving to Tekoa. Her husband died in 1982. Survivors include two sons, Curtis Hammer and Monte Peone, both of Pendleton; three daughters, Karen Boyd of Graham, Monica Hunter of Tekoa and Ora Wolf of Pendleton; two stepsons, Melvin and Miles Peone, both of Wellpinit, a stepdaughter, Darleen Garett of Fruitland, 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Petersen, a lifelong Wilbur resident, died Friday. He graduated from Wilbur High School in 1928. In 1935 he married Phyllis Squire. Mr. Petersen owned a Texaco gas station in Wilbur until World War II, when he went to work on the construction of Grand Coulee Dam for about six years.
He then operated a Signal Oil distributorship. He also worked at Lincoln Transit Mix and for the city of Wilbur. After retiring, he worked part-time at the Big Bend Golf Course for several years. He was a member of the Wilbur Lutheran Church, Danish Brotherhood and the Wilbur Masonic Lodge. His wife preceded him in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Monica Krause of Wilbur; three sons, Brad Petersen of Spokane, Jim Petersen of Kent, and Dirk Petersen of Kirkland, nine grandchildren and six great- grandchildren.
