The community was shocked to hear of the death of Vernon Shawen on Wednesday evening at the Hebron hospital. Vernon attended school on Friday. He was a freshman in high school.

The 15-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. E.F. Shawen of Belvidere, Neb., passed away at his home last Thursday and his body was interred in the Chester cemetery (sic) on Friday. Mrs. Shawen was formerly Miss Clara Silken (sic) of Chester, a sister of Arthur Silken of that place.

Vernon Shawen, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.F. Shawen of near Carleton, Neb., was taken suddenly ill on Sunday, November 6, and passed away on the following Wednesday.
Funeral services were conducted Friday from the Community church (sic) in Belvidere by the pastor, the Rev. J. Bruce Wylie, and interment made in the Chester cemetery (sic).
Vernon Grafton Shawen was born February 8, 1917, the son of Mr. and Mrs. E.F. Shawen, and departed this life November 9, 1932, aged 15 years 9 months and one day, after an illness of only a few days.
Vernon was a student in the Belvidere high school and a member of the high school class of the Community Sunday school, and was held in high esteem.
He leaves besides his parents, seven sisters: Mrs. Minnie Bignall, of Bartlett; Mrs. Edna Doty, of Oskaloosa, Kan.; Mrs. Dolly Ross, of Davenport; Mrs. Mabel Bell, Wellsville, Kan., Helen of Lincoln, and Helen (sic) and Gladys at home. - Chester Herald.
