We’re back once again, asFortnite drops its brand new and hotly-anticipated season: Absolute Doom! This new season brings us an almighty Marvel crossover, as the island is being taken over by the villainous Victor von Doom, and a clash is brewing between team Doom and the rest of the Marvel and Fortnite-original heroes populating the island.
As with all new seasons ofFortnite, Chapter 5 Season 4 is bringing a bunch of new cosmetics and character skins for ourFortnite gaming pleasure. We thought it’d be fun to take a look at the full season battle pass and rank them from worst to best as we’ve done before, and it’s a tough one this time as every skin is good! There are some variants yet to be revealed later in the season, but we’re going to just cover the ones we’ve got for now. Be warned – this is just one person’s opinion, and we’d love to hear yours down below!
8. Peelverine
Don’t get me wrong, I love Peely! I think the loveable banana is always a delight, and I appreciateFortnite having a non-human character who receives constant new variations to fit certain themes. I just find the Peelverine variant to be a little boring. The eye wings look great, but the outfits are quite standard. They look great on Wolverine himself, but not so much here. Sorry, Peely.
7. Captain Jonesy
Jonesy is back, anotherFortnite-original character receiving a Marvel variant, and I really like this one. The standard version looks great, but the additional ‘Stealth’ style kicks it up a notch, with a great colour scheme and added facial details. Like Peelverine though, I still feel it’s a tiny bit bland. I love the idea ofFortnite-original skins receiving Marvel variants, and the two we got are great – just not as good as what’s to come!
6. Gwenpool
It took me a while to decide Gwenpool’s placement on this list. On a personal level, I kinda dislike the hood and the eyes of the original design, but the implementation of her intoFortnite is just too good to put any lower. The line-art makes her unique amongst the rest of the Battle Pass, which works on a character-level too given her ability to break the fourth wall and stand out amongst other Fortnite characters. This skin might just make me a Gwenpool fan.
5. Black Panther
This may be a hot take, but I much prefer Shuri without the full Black Panther gear. The design of the Black Panther suit is great, but the visual effects that occur in motion, like the necklace glowing and the constantly shifting purple lights is a little overwhelming. Shuri herself however is incredibly detailed, with a great silhouette and stunning levels of expression and personality when emoting. Both variants are great, and I’ll be sure to push my Battle Pass to the max to grab this skin.
4. Doom
Marvel’s big green dooming machine is here, as Doom gets his own special section of the Battle Pass, and a full launch in about three weeks time. The skin is incredibly intimidating, with the piercing eyes through the mask giving an added layer of expression not often seen in masked skins. His stance is powerful, his shades of green are perfectly Doom-y, and I can’t wait to grab him for myself (and see his variant!).
3. Emma Frost
Now… Let’s just take a moment to thank Epic Games for this incredibly fierce skin. Emma Frost looks brilliant, with the angles of her sharp jacket giving a cutting edge to her elegant design, and her crystallised form has some amazing texture work all over. As an X-Men fan, I’m so happyFortnite did Emma Frost justice, and she will be my go-to skin once I manage to unlock her. As many of her fans online would say: she devoured this look.
2. War Machine
I surprised even myself with this War Machine placement, but I just adore the detail work on his suit. There’s so much to it, with the strong metallic sheen all over, the distinctly Iron Man-like face but the bulk on the chest and limbs that make this so clearly War Machine. The Iron Patriot variant is even better, with all the details and sheen but with a strong and unique color-scheme for an Iron Man suit. It’s perfect.
1. Mysterio
We’re finally here at #1, and I’m bewitched! Mysterio’s design is so wonderfully comic-accurate, so bold in its color, and looks so fun to wear. The added cape (not featured on the picture above) completes the look, and captures the perfect silhouette of an elegant and iconic super villain. I’ve always enjoyed Mysterio’s bowl-head, but its integration intoFortnite works on two levels: the cloudy texture detail looks excellent, but he also reminds me of other Fortnite originals like Leviathan with his round noggin. It was hard to choose the top spot out of this Battle Pass, but it had to be him!
